The Swiss Guard spreads Swiss values that are important to us: integrity, loyalty, a sense of duty. It does a great deal for the international reputation of our country. Supporting it is a wonderful task.
I am committed to raising funds for the new barracks in order to provide the guardsmen with accommodation that meets modern standards, thus helping to ensure that the security of the pontiff will continue to be guaranteed by the Swiss Guard.
The Swiss Guard has been closely associated with the history of the Vatican since 1506. One of my tasks on the Board of the Foundation is to make all the circles interested in our project even more aware of the cultural uniqueness and historical significance of the papal residence.
